Serving within 29 Commando, you will hold a dominant rear position behind friendly lines, orchestrating strategic fire support that enables and empowers frontline operations.

We structure our personnel into three primary roles: Layer, Loader, and Ammunition Handler. These foundational positions equip members with the essential skills and operational experience required to progress into more specialized roles through advanced training.

  • Layer – An artillery gun crew member is responsible for aiming the gun in both direction (traverse) and elevation.

  • Loader/Breech Operator– Loads the correct ammunition into the gun breech to prepare the weapon for firing.

  • Ammo Handler – Responsible for the secure and efficient handling, storage, movement, and supply of artillery ammunition.

  • Driver - Responsible for the safe, controlled, and reliable operation of the Pinzgauer 716, ensuring timely movement, proper positioning
